Halo games in order of story12/14/2023 ![]() ![]() Each gun has it's niche, and yet you never actually feel bogged down if you make a "wrong" choice. It has some of the best gunplay of any game I've played. And I personally think that's for the best. It's an action-shooter, with a good story and memorable characters!, but still an action-shhoter for most. It is NOT an RPG in any sense of the word. If you play games in the later series, then you'll definitely feel more sluggish and slow in earlier games, which'll probably be a detriment to your enjoyment. The game changed a lot over it's development, and over the course of the games. Halo CE was the original, and was ORIGINALLY going to be a tactical RTS. Starting early, you feel the evolution in combat throughout the games. While the story does rely on previous games to make sense, that's not why I would say to start early. I would NOT recommend starting in the later franchise. The Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike, Ghosts of Onyx, Contact Harvest, Cole Protocol, and more that I haven't gotten around to reading I recently went through the main series with a friend who had never played the series and he mostly enjoyed it with some obvious criticisms.Īlso if you do get into the story, there are a ton of books worth reading as supplemental material. You won't be getting Mass Effect levels of story but it's still their. So I realize I'm biased but I do think they are really good story wise. I played the series from the beginning when it released and it has been a huge part of my gaming experience. Though their decent arcadey games on their own they are not necessarily needed Spartan Strike/Assault is a top-down twin-stick shooter, similarly I played only the first one and it was completely inconsequential to the story from what I remember. Though supposedly HW2 is going to have some connections with Halo Infinite. Ive only played the first and the story was good but I recently tried to replay it and I did not enjoy the gameplay second time around. Halo Wars is an RTS series and not everyone's cup of tea especially since it's designed for consoles.
